Review: Cathay Pacific Business Class YVR – HKG

So, I finally got the time to blog about my family winter trip to South East Asia. We visited Koh Samui, Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Colombo, Maldives and Dubai.
I booked three business class award seats from SFO – HKG on Cathay Pacific and had plans to add my baby girl as a lap infant but $1200 as a lap infant fee changed my thought process. I started watching the Cathay award seats like a hawk and a week before departure, I saw 4 award seats open up on the YVR – HKG route. I immediately called American Airlines and switched my flights from SFO – HKG to SFO – SEA – YVR – HKG.

The flight was operated by a Boeing 777-300ER.

I am a big fan of Cathay Pacific due to their comfortable seats and service and I was not disappointed this time either.

We were assigned 4 seats right before the premium economy section in its own small cabin. I usually prefer it as the service seems a bit more personal and the bathrooms are very close by. We did have personnel from premium economy use the bathrooms in the business class all the time which didn’t bother us much except the times when folks were bumping into us.

As we seated ourselves, air hostess brought the Jurlique amenity kits for us.

Seats were comfortable and spacious for us. To the right of the seat were the seat and audio/video controls

I had to skip the pre-departure drinks as I was busy settling my 4-year-old.

We had a smooth take off albeit half an hour late due to rain. After an hour, we were offered the menus.

For starters, I ordered Gravlax Salmon with marinated fennel salad which was quite tasty.

For the main course, I ordered Wok-fried Cod which was cooked beautifully but was too gingerly for me.

For the dessert, I ordered Tiramisu which was delicious.

My 2-Cents

Cathay Pacific has a solid Business Class hard and soft product. I had the opportunity to fly on SFO – HKG, LAX – HKG and now YVR – HKG route and found the service consistent across the fleet. If you are looking for more than 2 business class seats for family travel, you cannot go wrong with Cathay Business availability and comfort.
